Lady Owls fall in D-9 League rematch with Clearfield
CLEARFIELD - Gwenn Porter and Madison Sopic combined for 30 points in Clearfield's 40-24 District 9 League basketball win over Bradford on Friday night.
Porter tallied 16 points and Sopic 14 as the Lady Bisons improved to 9-5 overall.
The loss was the sixth straight for the Lady Owls (3-14).
Michele Keane (3 steals, 4 rebounds) was the lone Bradford player in double figures with 10 points. Emily Marshall had 11 rebounds and Erica Siffrinn four assists.
"We tried to slow the pace of the game down," BAHS coach Ann Nuzzo said. "Clearfield beat us by 40 points the first time we met 69-29 on Jan. 8. We didn't want that to happen again."
"Erica Siffrinn controlled the tempo of the game. We only had nine players and half of those girls had to play two games. That's why we were trying to slow it down a little bit."
Nuzzo saw improvement from the first time BAHS played the Lady Bisons.
"We only gave up two three-pointers tonight," Nuzzo pointed out. "The last time we played them we gave up 13 three-pointers. We did make a lot of adjustments."
From the field, Bradford hit only 8 of 48.
"We are not shooting the ball well," Nuzzo admitted. "We have to make better decisions. We have limited depth. If we didn't have to play a JV game we could compete with these teams."
Bradford hosts St. Marys on Wednesday.
